Dementia Carer Voices Project
Engagement Lead, Tommy Whitelaw will be embarking on a short tour of NHS
Highland from the 12th-14th November, including a number
of visits and talks. This promises to be a busy few days and an excellent
opportunity to find out about work being undertaken across the area to support
people with dementia and their carers. There will also be opportunities to
discuss with staff the issues carers raise through the Dementia Carer Voices
project.
NHS Highland have introduced a number of initiatives to improve the experiences of people with dementia and their families while they are in hospital, including developing a Beacon Ward of Excellence for dementia in Raigmore Hospital. Raigmore have been shortlisted for the ‘best acute care initiative’ within Scotland’s annual Dementia Awards.
A number of visits and talks
have been organised, including;
- · Alzheimer Scotland Resource Centre
- · Raigmore Hospital
- · Centre for Health Science / University of Stirling Highland Campus
- · Highland Dementia Champions
- · Older People in Acute Care / Dementia Standards Steering Group
The ALLIANCE would like to thank
Ruth Mantle and Maimie Thompson from NHS Highland for hosting the visit. You can
keep up to date with Tommy’s progress over the next few days on Twitter and the
Tommy on Tour blog (links).
