Tommy Whitelaw from Dementia Carer Voices talks about the importance of carers on the Riverside Show

To mark Carers Week, Tommy Whitelaw from Dementia Carer Voices at the Alliance was invited to speak on STV’s Riverside Show about the important role that carers play.

In the video, Tommy talks about his Tommy on Tour  campaign whereby he collected letters from people all over Scotland who are caring for loved ones who have dementia, and presented them to the Scottish Parliament. He also speaks about the importance of letting people know what help is available and getting it to them before they reach a crisis point.

This is something that Dementia Carer Voices are campaigning to achieve, with Tommy going out on tour once more to speak to health and social care professionals and students, asking people to make a pledge to make a difference in the lives of people affected by dementia. To find out more about the pledges, or to make a pledge yourself, please visit our You Can Make a Difference page .

The video also gives a snapshot into the lives of Maimie Reed and her husband, Jimmy, who has Alzheimer’s. Click here > to watch
